The Impossible Movie Review
The Impossible is a film not for
the light hearted. I don’t mean that it has a lot of gruesome and graphic
images but the emotional toll it delivers is just heavy.
The film is not based on a true
story. It is the true story of a family and their ordeal during the tsunami
event that wiped out a huge area of Indonesia. It is a gripping tale of
survival, hope and love and it touches each of us in a lot of ways.
The film brings together a great
cast of actors headed by Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. Watts is currently the
dark horse in the race for the 2013 Academy Awards for her role in this film.
And it is a worthy nomination. The actors are able to portray the emotions that
the real life survivors felt during that dark time. You can feel the fear, loss
of hope, worry and love that the family members felt during the time of their
separation.
The film also delivers a great
cinematic view. Camera movements and angles were perfectly chosen to show the
damage brought about by the tsunami as well as the chaos of the hospitals.
These locations may have been packed with people but they were able to deliver
it right and not making a scene too crowded. The camera movement played a great
part in the film as it followed the characters through every dark corner and
tight spot as well as during the tsunami.
The Impossible delivers a
realistic presentation of the tsunami. The sequence is not only scary; it will
make you feel as if you were in the water. The shot of Naomi Watts being
dragged by the current and getting hit and ripped by debris is one of the main
highlights of the film and they delivered a great sequence. The special effects
were well made and the sets are just remarkable.
The Impossible is a heavy film.
It will leave you in tears and not just in one scene but in many. Possibly the
huge emotional part of the film is when the brothers found each other out of a
lot of people. This film is worth the watch as it tells the human side of the
horrific tragedy. It centered of relationship instead of the chaos and damage.
It is a story that could happen to any of us.
I highly recommend The
Impossible. It is an emotional journey of hope, fear and family. It is one of the best films of 2012. I give it 9
out of 10.
