The Hangover Part 2 Movie Review
The Hangover was one of the best surprise comedies ever. It was original, funny and, well funny. But the sequel could not live up to that.
The Hangover Part 2 brings the entire Wolf Pack back together. And they encounter the same thing that happened before; they have a massive hangover and seem to forget everything that happened the night before. Despite a new location, Bangkok instead of Las Vegas, the film could not generate enough laughs to defeat its predecessor.
The film has good cinematography. The locations are great and the camera guides us through each alley, each beach and each dark place with ease. The lighting blends well with the darker parts of the film. Camera movement as well are well done and camera placements were ideal.
The film has a great premise. It featured a new challenge to the group. But when the film moves on, we find that it is just a parody of the first. A lot of the scenes in the film are sort of based on the first. Case in point the elevator scene, the only thing that changed is the baby was replaced by a monkey.
The film is too fast for you to laugh your heart out. Unlike the first, there are a lot of scenes that make you laugh and there scenes that really make you laugh hard. This time around, you just laugh. One thing that may disappoint fans is that Justin Bartha’s character Doug is not part of the hangover. He stays in the resort where he just worries. His part is replaced by a new kid who is Stu’s soon to be brother in law.
The jokes and antics are there only it doesn’t quite blow up unlike the first. Probably the funniest scene in the film is when the three are in their scrummy hotel and Allan is crying and Stu is panicking. Or the photo montage at the end where we see what they really did the night before. Well, it depends on who’s watching.
The Hangover Part 2 delves into a new culture but still has all the American Jack-ass antics. At times it is fun but there are parts that are dull to look at and even predictable at times. Still, this film will bring fun and laughter to a lot of people and they may even get a hangover after watching the film.
The Hangover Part 2 is a funny film. the only problem is originality. They are planning a third film, I just hope it beats this one as well as the first. I give it 6 out of 10.
