Colombiana Movie Review

Colombiana is film of revenge, plain and simple. A deep hatred that clouds your better judgment of things is what the film really delves into.
Colombiana is film written by the people who brought us the epic film Taken. But this film has some things lacking in what you would expect a Luc Besson story should have. Unlike Taken or Leon: The Professional, the film lacks the certain action edge.
Luc Besson is known for his action like The Transporter films, Taken and Leon. But for Colombiana, they tackle more on the emotional side thus leaving the action spectacle to grow only a little. Audiences would really expect much action, gun fight and punches as what was expected from the previews. But, the action is somewhat minimal and plane.
The film stars Zoe Saldana as the Colombiana. Saldana gives an all out performance as a killer for hire with a very troubling past. She fully gives out raw emotions which are really felt by the audience. You can really feel her hurt and anger. Unfortunately, only Saldana’s performance is worth the watch. The supporting cast are plane and forgettable with the exception of Cliff Curtis who plays Saldana’s uncle.
The film has its ups and downs. It also has some scenes that were just there to pass the time and really has nothing to do with the story. Event the final battle between the main villains is short and at times redundant and plane. The cinematography was well done. Even the colors and shade were properly balanced and really showed Saldana’s true skin color.
Colombiana is a film gives out a lot of emotions but only a small amount of punches. This would have been a great film if there was a balance between fight and emotion. Still, the film is enjoyable to watch and you will gasp at her action sequences. I give it 6 out of 10.
