Tron: Legacy Movie Review
I got to see Tron: Legacy in IMAX 3D with my family. It was somewhat of a journey given one; my father saw the first Tron early in his life and got to see the sequel after 2 decades and two; he got to see it in IMAX 3D.
The film is truly an eye candy. I got to see the original Tron just days before and for me, it really was an achievement for that time. And the sequel is also an achievement. The film has breath taking visuals and sound. Director Joseph Kosinski did a great job in bringing the sequel to life.
The film is sort of a continuation of the original. A lot of factors contributed to making the film bewildering. One is the actors. In this film, we get to see Academy Award winning actor Jeff Bridges portrays the same characters in different ages. We get the young Kevin Flynn, The Old Kevin Flynn and Kevin Flynn’s digital doppelganger CLU. In this film we get to see Bridges do what he is good at and why he has an Academy Award. He portrays his characters like he did in the original Tron back in 1982. Garrett Hedlund also did a great job as Sam Flynn. He is a perfect fit for the role. Also an intriguing character is Quorra played by Olivia Wilde. She did a good job which makes her portrayal different from her usual roles. Finishing the cast is Tron played by Bruce Boxleitner and Michael Sheen as Zuse with her lovely assistant played by Beau Garrett.
The next factor is the effects. The film is composed of a lot of light works which really captures the audience attention. One of the things that will make this film memorable is the visuals. Everything is perfectly rendered and the 3D works well for the film. We could really feel as if we were inside the digital world. This film is like Avatar when it came out. All we could talk about was the effects.
And the best factor for the film is the score. Daft Punk did a great job with music. It mixes the digital world and the action around it. The music seems to be part of every movement. It’s one of the things that make you excited to see what happens next. It also brings the perfect mood for each scene.
A downside for the film is the story which just like Avatar is simple. It’s not great but it’s not bad either. But, once you enter the world of Tron, you will be lost and carried into a world of lights, sound, music and action.
Tron: Legacy for me is one of the great films of the year. The film will be like its predecessor, a visual masterpiece of a generation. I’m going to watch it again because I want to. I give it 8.5 out of 10.
